PHOENIX Music Studio students recently completed their Australian Music Board Examinations in drama and performance to improve their confidence and hone their performances.
Adelaide adjudicator Louise Borgo was thrilled with the standard.
Students presented literature forms of drama, prose and poetry through topics based around an area of their interest.
They explored presentation styles such as mime, public speaking, recitation, reading and storytelling.
First grade student Ella Swiggs presented a thematic program titled “family”.
She mimed, recited poetry and prose, then spoke about different families including her own and was awarded a high distinction.
Her authors included Mem Fox and Marjorie Flack.
Third grade students Rachel Lindsay Holland and Alina Crispino presented programs on intelligence and cats respectively.
Rachel secured a distinction score for tales from Aesop, a Paul Jennings classic and an intriguing storytelling performance of our local Dreaming story Craitbul.
Alina received a credit for TS Elliot poems, a mime, a strong storytelling performance and some dramatic prose recitations.
Ariella Holland completed fifth grade with her distinction performance based around a drama play of The Diary of Anne Frank.
Ariella also presented a talk on her Australian hero, who continually shows courage through her surfing, Bethany Hamilton.
A group of grade six performers presented the Symposium of Absurd Literature for Drama and Performance Recital.
The 45 minute high distinction performance took the audience through the history of absurdist literature.
Works from Catch 22, Waiting for Godot, Monty Python, Macbeth, Metamorphosis, Alice in Wonderland and Jabberwocky were performed through a linked program.
Performances were held at the Main Corner Dress Circle.
