ROBE District Council has had to temporarily close vehicle and pedestrian access to the Robe Obelisk and the Obelisk carpark as a result of a preliminary investigation by geotechnical engineers.
The temporary closure will be in place until the council receives and considers the full report and its recommendations at an upcoming meeting.
As a result of the recommendations contained within the report, pedestrian access in some form may be reinstated to the carpark area.
Vehicles travelling along Obelisk Road will have to either park or turn around within the carpark alongside the old gaol site.
The council has stated it regrets having to take this action, but the safety of the public is the council’s paramount concern and it would endeavour to keep the community informed in relation to the matter.
