WARM up those vocal chords, put on your Christmas hats and crack out the jingle bells because it is time to get festive.

The Millicent Showgrounds shearing shed is set to undergo its yearly transformation when it hosts the Carols in the Shearing Shed tomorrow.

Commencing at 7.30pm, the event boasts a varied program, including a children’s segment, community carol singing, guest performances by the Beachport Ukulele Group, the Millicent Choral Society and soloists Amy Williams, Mary Bawden and Leon Hancock.

Member of the Carols in the Shearing Shed organising committee Elizabeth Groom said the event provided a great opportunity for the community to gather together, sing carols and enjoy guest items.

“In arranging the program, we have always sought to engage local talent for the engagement of all,” she said.

“Over many years, the mayor has been happy to attend and bring a greeting on behalf of the Wattle Range Council.

“We try to vary the guests most years.

“Over the years, we have enjoyed items by Millicent High School students, local soloists and instrumentalists and the Penola Pipe Band.”

Ms Groom added the event had grown over the years with attendance numbers reaching anywhere between 200 and 300 people.

As part of the evening’s festivities, Wattle Range Mayor Des Noll will share a greeting with the crowd, before Phillip Galley provides a short Christmas message.

Red Cross regional manager and local identity David Walshaw will be sure to spread the cheer with families, friends and individuals as the evening’s master of ceremonies.

Meanwhile, a sea of battery-operated candles is expected to light up the night sky after being available for sale by the Millicent Cancer Support Group (MCSG).

The collection received during the evening will benefit not only the MCSG, but also the Millicent and District Hospital.

Refreshments will be available at the event and everyone is invited to bring a chair and join in on the community Christmas celebration.

People should enter the venue by the Mount Burr Road gate to the Millicent Showgrounds.
