Levi experiences tough days on track

SOLID EFFORT: Despite several set backs, Mount Gambier motorcycle racer Levi Day managed a credible fifth place for the season in the 2018 Ducati TriOptions Cup.

LEVI Day experienced the typical ups and downs of motorsport this year, in his second season in the Ducati TriOptions Cup series in England.

Day finished third in 2017, with aspirations of more success this year.

His new 959 Ducati Panigale provided the ideal platform for the Limestone Coast racer, but things did not pan out as expected.

After the perfect start with a race win in Round 1 at Donnington, electrical gremlins plagued the next three races, which was a big blow so early in the season.

That provided no points from either race in Round 2 at Brands Hatch.

Round 3 at Oulton Park Saw Day on the pace, but an accident in practice, which broke the break lever, would again cause issues for the team.

A master cylinder was fitted but the brakes then began to jam, leaving no result from the opening race of the weekend.

However, Day and the team bounced back and again repaired the bike to claim a comfortable win in the second race.

Round 4 at Snetterton looked good, with a fast bike under him, but an accident in front of him in practice saw Day hit the deck and break his collarbone.

Just four weeks after his accident Day headed to Brands Hatch for Round 5 and managed an impressive third and fourth place, despite not having actually raced for 11 weeks.

A win then came at Caldwell Park in Round 6, despite being a circuit Day had previously struggled at.

A pole position set the scene, with a victory in the first race.

That was backed up with a third place.

With a lack of pace at the fast, sweeping Silverstone circuit, Day could only managed a third and fifth place, before heading to Assen, another fast circuit for the final round.

Two second places was the result, which equated to a fifth place overall for the season.

From the 11 races Day finished, he stood on the podium no less than eight times.
