Community urged to support toy run

WORTHY CAUSE: South East resident Jeremy “Jezza” Young has taken on the task of running this year’s Limestone Coast Toy Run to be held on Saturday.

THE community is being urged to support the annual Limestone Coast Toy Run this weekend and donate toys for those in need this Christmas.

The annual event almost did not go ahead this year until community member Jeremy “Jezza” Young stepped up to the challenge.

“It’s such an important event and I could not let it disappear,” he said.

“I am a support worker for youth in care and I see how much support they need.

“Having direct contact with a range of local young people and families who sadly go without over the Christmas period, I just hope to put a smile on each and every face.”

The event is open to motorcycles this year in addition to trucks and other roadworthy vehicles.

The free event has been supported by multiple local businesses with Mr Young stating he was proud of the community.

“We have been very lucky to receive sponsorship from many local businesses and we are really grateful for the help,” he said.

Festive convoys will leave Mount Gambier’s former Bunnings site and Millicent skate park at 8am and unite at Naracoorte’s Limestone Coast Motorcycles at 10am to begin the trek south.

Another convoy will leave Mount Gambier Market Place for Penola at 10.15am to arrive at Penola Shell at 11.15am, joining the Naracoorte convoy for Mount Gambier.

Participants will gather and depart Mount Gambier Marketplace at 12.30pm for a tour through the city to Vansittart Park, where food and stalls will be available and the public is invited to attend.

Donations of toys before the event can be made at Baptist Care, Millicent Toyota, Limestone Coast Motorcycles, the Penola Shell and the Penola IGA Fresh.
