Traction engine on show at Christmas parade

A GLIMPSE FROM YESTERYEAR: This historic wagon will feature in the Mount Gambier Christmas Parade on Saturday

A COWLEY traction engine will be among the floats in Saturday’s Mount Gambier Christmas Parade.

The engine, which belonged to the Gregory family and was used for work in district, was a key feature in the Christmas parade in years gone by.

The engine is now based at Scienceworks in Melbourne, but will return for the our city’s parade and will pull a wagon from the Millicent museum.

The engine will also feature at the Yahl Primary School’s celebrations next weekend.

“It is significant that we are able to get it back here for what may well be the last time thanks to very generous sponsorship and personal relationship with those involved,” spokesperson Julianne Woodruff said.

Now in its 59th year, the parade traditionally heralds the arrival of the festive season and will start at 11am on Saturday.
