Mindfulness support sessions

UNWIND: One Yoga and Lifestyle teacher Julie Denton leads a simple yoga routine at the Cave Gardens for Lifeboat SE’s community mindfulness event.

AROUND 50 people and a few four-legged friends attended a free community mindfulness event at the Cave Gardens on Friday night.

Hosted by Lifeboat SE (a South East Junction initiative), One Yoga and Lifestyle’s Julie Denton provided tips to manage stress through yoga and mindfulness.

On a balmy spring evening, attendees practiced a few simple, restorative yoga poses and joined together for a brief meditation.

The Lifeboat team helps people manage stressful situations and supports early intervention to improve community health.

“We are a group of local mates who catch up regularly to share our experiences in dealing with stress, depression and anxiety,” Lifeboat SE founding member Matthew Brookes said.

“We hope to provide insight into how others in our rural community have managed stressful situations with shared tools, help and support from family and services available in the community.

“Anyone is welcome to come along to a Lifeboat catch-up – we meet on the first Tuesday of each month from 6pm to 7pm in the level one conference room in the civic centre.”
