Golden high school memories

MILLICENT North Primary School will take a trip down memory lane next month in celebration of its golden 50th anniversary.

Planning is well under way for the two-day event, which will be held at the school grounds on November 9 and 10.

An in-school celebration will kick off the festivities and will include related learning activities, an assembly and cake-cutting with present day students.

Day two will be an open day with a display in the gym and classrooms, including all staff photographs taken from 1968 to the current day.

There will also be food and drink stalls and activities for children.

To finish the weekend there will be an evening celebration at the Millicent Football and Netball Clubrooms from 7pm with drinks, music and supper at a local venue.

The anniversary celebration event is being planned by a sub-committee of the school’s governing council.

Members of the history committee include school identities Wendy Mariager, John Drew, Nan Minty, Glen Tilley, Noeleen Sneath and Gloria Garrett.

The group is still on the hunt for class photographs from 1968-1993 and memorabilia – such as school or sport uniforms, sport team photographs and banners – from the past 50 years to include in a historical display.

They also hope to confirm the existence or exact location of a time capsule which was supposedly buried at the school’s 25-year celebrations.

There have been several attempts at retrieving the time capsule with a probe, however it is yet to be located.

Photographs can be scanned and emailed to dl.0605.info@schools.sa.edu.au or dropped off at the school’s front office for scanning and returning.

Tickets are now available online at Eventbrite on millicentnorthps50.eventbookings.com and at the school’s front office.
