FROM cooking to knitting, St Mary’s Aged Care Facility residents remain enthusiastic about supporting the community, raising more than $500 for the South East Animal Welfare League.

Since 2013, a tight-knit group of residents has merged together to raise money for worthy causes, creating traditional items for sale.

“This is our fifth year running and it is only once a week over a six week period, but we have sold-out every time,” St Mary’s lifestyle coordinator Cindy Crozier said.

“This year we made things like pasties and lemon slices so staff and visitors had plenty of options for purchase.

“One resident also knits squares for the pet cages at the SEAWL as a personal development project.”

With original plans to support RSPCA Cupcake Day, the residents decided to direct their efforts to support a similar

charity closer to home.

“We figured that we have SEAWL here and it is better if we fundraise for our own local community,” Ms Crozier said.

The charity event continues to grow each year.

“We have slowly built up how much we have fundraised and it has become quite a little social networking project with visitors and families also supporting St Mary’s,” Ms Crozier said.

“If we ever had to fundraise for something, we know this is a good option, it works very well.”

Continuing to support the South East community, St Mary’s will host a fashion parade in November.
