VOLUNTEER mentors are being sought for Grant District Council’s Youth on Wheels initiative.
Operating since 2013, Youth on Wheels helps disadvantaged learner drivers achieve the 75 hours of on-road driving essential to receive their provisional licence.
Current volunteers have achieved almost 1000 hours of on-road driver supervision over the past two years, mentoring 27 participants and attaining 10 provisional licences.
The minimum commitment is two hours per week and volunteers must be over 25, have held a full South Australian drivers licence for a minimum of two years and able to meet other requirements of the program.
Mentors develop a trusting and supportive relationship with participants and help young people become safe and confident drivers.
Applications are now open and the council is looking to recruit new volunteers to start in 2019.
Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer with the Youth on Wheels program should contact the council on 8721 0444.
