Science show provides technological insight

MESSY science will arrive in Mount Gambier this Sunday with Science Alive showcasing a free event at the Main Corner complex.

Full of adventure, the science show will feature slime, native animals, robotics, astronomy, bugs, slugs and plenty of hands-on experiments.

A new attraction to this year’s event is the explosive science show that will involve flames, bangs and much more.

Science Alive representative Brian Haddy visited Tenison Woods College yesterday and performed a demonstration of what visitors to the event can expect.

“This weekend is about making science fun, we showed that today and the kids really got a kick out of it,” he said.

Science Alive and Tenison Woods College have partnered with OneFortyOne to have a harvesting simulator at the event.

“OneFortyOne is delighted to continue our partnership with Tenison Woods College, giving students real life STEM experience in the forestry and timber industry,” OneFortyOne communications manager Anne Kerr said.

“Our industry is high-tech with cutting edge science and technology used every day in the forests and the mills and we are really pleased that Komatsu Forests has joined us to provide the students with a state of the art simulator experience.

“It just seemed like a brilliant opportunity to give the kids a good technological experience.”

The free event will also feature Questacon hands-on exhibits and University of South Australia career booths, showcasing career opportunities available for study in the South East.

With an audience of around 4000 people expected, it will be a jam-packed event with something for everyone from 10am to 3pm.
