THE most creative tea cosies will be awarded with a $100 cash prize this year as part of the Penola Show’s craft events.
The tea cosy competition has been hotly contested each year, but has been stepped up a notch for the 2018 Penola Show, held October 26-27.
Participants will be judged on functionality, fit and style of their cosies under a strict variety of requirements.
Each cosy must be double lined to keep the tea warm, removable without spilling any tea, knitted or crocheted and must fit snug around the teapot.
Penola PA & H Society president Kerry DeGaris said she was excited to see what people can create.
“The tea cosies are always colourful and interesting so it will be great to see how they each turn out,” she said.
“I believe the competition is important as it encourages people to get involved in arts and crafts.
“Tea cosies are definitely big talking pieces and can really brighten up a table setting.”
Coonawarra Store manager and event sponsor Marcia Gregory said she was always surprised with the tea cosies.
“Each year they are unique and exciting,” she said.
“I like to be surprised with the winner and it is always something different that wins.”
Entrants are encouraged to start work on their cosies now to have plenty of preparation time before the competition.
