UNDER SIEGE: Grant District Council has passed a motion of no confidence in Mayor Richard Sage.

IN AN extraordinary political development, Grant District Council has moved a motion of no confidence in mayor Richard Sage the day before entering caretaker mode.

The decision was made at the fortnightly meeting of the council, which was held in Tarpeena tonight and stems from claims the relationship between the mayor and new chief executive officer David Singe was dysfunctional.

Nominations close tomorrow for the Local Government elections, including for the position of Grant District mayor, with current councillor Alan Hill previously announcing he would stand for the role.

Tonight’s motion stemmed from questions asked by Cr Hill and follow debates in the chamber between the outspoken councillor and mayor.

The motion was put forward by Councillor Shirley Little.

Gillian Clayfield left the chamber and refused to vote on the motion, which was carried by the majority of councillors.
