Imaginative art hits Millicent streets

MILLICENT is about to join the many communities around the world that have a “street piano”, which will give residents and visitors to the town the opportunity to tickle the ivories.

This weekend, community members are invited to join the Imagine Millicent Arts Group (IMAG) and Port MacDonnell artist Jeremy Ievins by participating in a piano painting workshop.

Jeremy has created a design on the old Nangula Hall piano and participants will be given the task of filling in the design and bringing it to life with colour.

“I found my inspiration for the design through social media and it has been used before on a denim jacket, which was auctioned off as part of the Swinging with the Stars event,” Jeremy said.

“This is my first time painting a piano, usually I paint murals and surfboards so this project is a bit more interesting for me.

“It is also different in the way I will have kids helping me out … it will be great to have them on board and involved.”

As part of the workshop, Jeremy will teach participants how to use Posca paint pens to create a colourful and eye catching artwork.

They will then be able to take away the skills they have learnt to create their own artworks by customising objects as varied as skateboards, denim jackets and bike helmets.

The piano will be IMAG’s second community project, following on from the water goddess mural in the town’s main street.

The group hopes it will encourage passers-by to not only play, but to also admire the piano as an artwork.

The workshop will be held at the Millicent Central Hub market Saturday and Sunday and is open to people of all ages.

There are limited spaces available.

Contact IMAG on 0428347837 or via email imaginemillicent@internode.on.net to secure your spot for either day or both days.

Jeremy’s artwork is currently on display in the window of the Millicent Central Hub.
