Larry the Lobster has sold

FURNER landowner Tom Brinkworth and his family has purchased “Larry the Lobster” at Kingston.

The super-size fibreglass crustacean has been a Princes Highway landmark for decades and on the market for several months.

It failed to sell at auction in mid-2017, but a deal was done with the major property-holders on the weekend.

“Larry” had been on the open market for the GST-exclusive price of $300,000.

Current owner Casey Sharpe had offered “Larry” and associated buildings for sale to Kingston District Council, but a special confidential meeting of the council on Friday sought more time to consider the matter.

The sale of “Larry” was negotiated by selling agents Ben Treloar and Linda Tait, of Ottoson Partners Real Estate.

Mr Treloar said his listing of “Larry” had attracted media attention from across the globe.

He said it was safe to assume “Larry” would be staying.

“Mr Brinkworth has done a great community act,” Mr Treloar said.
