Young gun tops tipping competition

WINNING TIPSTER: The Border Watch Newsgroup media sales supervisor Melissa Prior and Harvey Norman’s Michael Rookas present South Eastern Times AFL tipping winner Jemma Skeer with Harvey Norman vouchers valued at $1000.

JEMMA Skeer pipped her twin sister at the post in the last few rounds of the South Eastern Times AFL tipping competition – securing the title of top tipster and a $1000 Harvey Norman voucher.

The Port Adelaide fan tipped the Power in an upset win late in the season and nabbed the lead.

“My twin sister Sophie came second – she was leading for a while and with about five weeks to go I realised I was ahead,” Jemma explained.

“I had made a few last minute changes to my tips in one of those rounds and tipped Port in a tough game.

“I ended up winning and I was only one or two points ahead of her.”

An avid football fan, Jemma said her win was down to a little footy knowledge and a lot of luck.

“I watch every Friday and Saturday and travel to watch a few games live every year, but games this year have been hard to predict.

“I have no idea who will win the premiership this season – maybe Hawthorn because they have been in good form lately.”

The Year 9 Tenison Woods College student said she would likely use her Harvey Norman voucher to purchase a laptop for school.

“I have a few things in mind to spend it on,” she said.

“We need laptops for school in Year 10, so I’ll definitely buy one of those.”

Harvey Norman Mount Gambier furniture and bedding franchisee Michael Rookas congratulated Jemma on her win.

“We are proud to sponsor the competition as we have a strong association with the Millicent community,” Mr Rookas said.

“We service Millicent customers regularly across all departments.”
