Greco seeks second term to continue community representation

CHRISTIAN Greco has become the first of the current Mount Gambier City Council elected members to publicly declare he will stand for re-election following his first term representing the city.

Born and raised in Mount Gambier, Cr Greco has worked in the advertising department for The Border Watch Newsgroup for over two years and his role has led him to become increasingly connected with local businesses and the issues they face.

During his four years on council, Cr Greco has been involved with the Railway Lands Development Committee, Mount Gambier Health Advisory Council, Queen Elizabeth Park Trust and Limestone Coast Violence Against Women Collaboration.

Cr Greco said he prides himself on being a community-minded, working-class ratepayer in Mount Gambier.

“During my first term as a councillor, I have supported the push for lower rates for ratepayers and businesses,” he said.

“I understand the time and dedication it takes to continue to push important values such as these and be the voice our community needs.”

Cr Greco was a vocal supporter of the installation of sporting infrastructure at Don McDonnell Reserve, has pushed to include four free dump vouchers within the council area and objected to “excessive funds” being spent on railway artwork.

If re-elected, Cr Greco said he would endeavour to represent the interests of ratepayers and residents.

“I will use common sense when solving issues, ensure community rates are spent responsibly and initiate beneficial change to the community,” he said.

Key issues Cr Greco plans to address upon re-election include improving communication between council and the community, maintaining affordable rates, boosting small business and creating jobs.

He intends to help create opportunities for young people to stay in Mount Gambier and further their careers, will continue to support local sporting groups and strive to foster a culturally diverse and vibrant community.
