COLES supermarkets across the country opened late on Sunday morning due to a nationwide technical glitch.
With the outage affecting registers, purchases were unable to be processed.
Coles Mount Gambier customers were among those forced to return later in the day or shop for groceries elsewhere.
All Coles supermarkets were open and trading by 11am on Sunday.
Coles has since issued an apology to customers and said “minor IT problems” were to blame.
“Earlier this morning we had some minor IT problems in some of our supermarkets which were out of our team members’ control,” Coles said in a statement.
“We apologise for any inconvenience our customers experienced.”
