WHILE most students have been spending their Saturday mornings sleeping in, playing sport, working or checking social media, some committed students helped run the barbecue at the Mount Gambier Rotary Community Market during July.
This service is in return for the generous support of the Rotary Club of Mount Gambier for Tenison Woods College’s first annual charity day held last term.
Every Saturday, three students were required during the full five hours of trading.
This included the preparation, barbecuing and cleaning up.
The new barbecue shed allowed them to keep warm and dry at all times.
More than $4000 was raised for worthwhile local causes, with $1000 presented to the college by the Rotary club.
Charities the funds were donated to included South East Animal Welfare League, Headspace Mount Gambier and the Sunset Kitchen.
Along with the fundraising, students were asked to each bring a can of food as a donation to the St Vincent de Paul Society, with more than 1300 cans collected.
