Men’s group keen to break ground on second shed

SHED SUCCESS: Penola Men’s Shed member Anton Balk, president Ian Tregenza, vice president Baden Sharam and member Peter Mulller inspecting the new men’s shed site.

THE Penola Men’s Shed is celebrating the establishment of a much-needed second shed for the club after lease agreements were finalised during their recent annual general meeting.

The new facility has received a $20,000 grant from Beach Energy, along with $2000 from Penola and District Community Bank Branch of Bendigo Bank and funding from the Wattle Range Council.

“Many generous community members and local tradespeople have also made this possible with their generosity,” Penola Men’s Shed president Ian Tregenza said.

“It was a very exciting meeting and we have now ordered the shed.”

The Penola Men’s Shed is made up of 20 members, who have been rallying for the introduction of a second shed at the Cameron Street premises for around 18 months.

“The new shed is for the recreational side of the group,” Mr Tregenza said.

Following the construction of the shed, the space will require air conditioning, a new stove, cooking appliances and hot water.

“We are hoping the shed will be up in September and completed by the end of the year,” Mr Tregenza said.

The shed will allow for a space where the men are able to communicate with one another and build friendships.

“That is what the group has always been about,” Mr Tregenza said.

“It is for people to build up good relationships and to improve men’s mental health.

“We encourage men to come and have a chat as it is a vital part of staying healthy.”

Mr Trengenza encouraged community members to assist with the ongoing funding of the new shed.

“We thank the entire community for their support, especially Penola High School as they have been very supportive,” he
said.
