MOUNT Gambier City Council has granted Foodbank Limestone Coast an extension on funding provided in June last year.

Council provided $42,750 to the food relief organisation to support the freehold purchase and improvement of Foodbank’s Cave Road facility.

At the time council resolved that should the purchase and upgrade not be completed by June 30 this year, the funds must be returned to council.

Foodbank has requested an extension of that time until June 30, 2021.

“They provide a fantastic service, not just to Mount Gambier, but across the whole region,” Cr Sonya Mezinec said at council’s monthly meeting on Tuesday.

“I support this motion that we give them enough time to put their plans in place.”

Council approved the extension, noting that as the financial contribution was made in its 2016/2017 budget the change will have no material impact on its current or future budget.
