Third candidate confirmed

IN THE RACE: Vicki Quinn, Tony Beck and Craig Marsh are the three people contesting the Liberal Party preselection process.

THE SA Liberal Party has confirmed Mingbool grazier Tony Beck along with Mount Gambier real estate identities Vicki Quinn and Craig Marsh will battle it out for preselection for the seat of Mount Gambier.

This follows the three contenders receiving the green light on Monday following a mandatory review of candidates by party executives.

The vacancy follows the resignation of embattled and now independent Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell from the Liberal Party ranks.

SA Liberal Party director Sascha Meldrum said the three candidates were endorsed on Monday following a review of the nominations.

She revealed there were a total of three nominations for the preselection process.

Ms Meldrum said a college of local members with voting rights would likely meet in mid-October to take part in the plebiscite to determine the candidate.

The successful party candidate will contest the state election in March.

Neither the Labor Party nor The Nick Xenophon Team have announced their candidates for the seat of Mount Gambier.

Mr Bell has also not ruled out running for the seat of Mount Gambier as an independent.
