THE attractions of the region are being displayed in a different way with an interactive pop-out brochure now on show at the Mount Gambier Visitor Centre.
Featuring the works of local artist Mel Cecotti, the pop-out brochure is a new installation encouraging fun and engaging interaction.
The brochure in art concept provides a taste of the region to inspire visitors to explore the area.
“This fun display features caves, sinkholes and vineyards and uses vibrant colours and quirky materials for an off-canvas experience,” Mount Gambier City Council tourism and economic development manager Donna Foster said.
“The combined artwork and display both harness educational elements and encourage visits to various sites around Mount Gambier and the Limestone Coast.”
The quirky concept aims to take a different approach to sharing visitor information and encourages visitors to talk to the centre staff about what they want to see and do in the region.
The installation features a number of works by artist Mel Cecotti of Psycotti Art, including Simo, Stevie the Scuba Diver and Ducks.
“Simo is a fun take on the extinct short faced kangaroo whose footprints lead out of the cave and cheekily photo-bombs anyone who takes a selfie photograph on the designated seat,” Ms Cecotti said.
“Ducks encourages interaction with nature with a message about not feeding bread to ducks and wildlife while Stevie the Scuba Diver prompts people to think about underwater activities, including cave diving at sites like Kilsby Sinkhole.
“There is something for all ages and the display includes hidden gems that can be found in the art, including the flowers of each of the Australian states.”
The display can be viewed daily at the visitor centre during normal opening hours.
The visitor centre is open seven days between 9am to 5pm weekdays and 10am to 4pm on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
