WE have all relied on the dedication and caring nature of nurses at some point during our lives and there is no doubt they deserve some recognition for their work.
This week many local nurses were given a big thankyou as they celebrated International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife.
Senior staff at the Millicent and District Hospital arranged a morning tea for the nurses as well as those who support the 60 aged residents who live at its Sheoak Lodge facility.
The hospital and aged care facility have the Millicent township’s largest single-site workforce and the majority of their 150 staff work in nursing-related fields.
Country Health SA’s executive director of nursing and midwifery Lyn Olsen said International Nurses Day and International Day of the Midwife provided an opportunity for the wider community to acknowledge the contribution of nurses and midwives.
“We have wonderful staff across all of our health sites who are committed to providing the best possible patient care and I want to thank all of our nurses and midwives for making a tangible difference in people’s lives,” Ms Olsen said.
“I would also like to thank our new chief nurse and midwifery officer Jenny Hurley for heading out into the regions and meeting some of our fantastic staff.
Each year, International Day of the Midwife is observed around May 5 and International Nurses Day is marked around May 12 with staff being honoured at morning teas and breakfasts across the state.
