A MAN was arrested on the outskirts of Mount Gambier yesterday after he rolled a vehicle into a paddock and fled the scene of the crash.
Emergency services and police were called to the scene on the corner of the Riddoch Highway and Mount Salt Road after reports of a roll-over at around 10.45am.
On arrival, they found an unoccupied car with Victorian number plates with significant damage.
Other witnesses were at the scene where the vehicle had rolled into a paddock on the side of the road.
Mount Gambier State Emergency Service and Mount Schank Country Fire Service volunteers stayed at the scene of the crash while paramedics, police and other members of the public searched the surrounding area for the driver.
A short time later, a man was arrested and transported to the Mount Gambier Police Station to be interviewed.
Other police patrols returned to the site of the crash and began searching the vehicle.
Mount Gambier Police officer in charge Senior Sergeant Chris King said the man was arrested in relation to traffic offences.
“Police are conducting further inquiries into other offences that may have been committed,” Snr Sgt King said.
The man was still being interviewed at press time yesterday and was expected to be refused bail to appear in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court today.
