SCHOOL students across the region will have a healthy start to the day with thanks to a generous donation from a local bank.
The Mount Gambier and District Community bank has once again thrown its valued support behind the Foodbank Limestone Coast School Breakfast Program, donating a further $10,000 towards the initiative.
The donation will allow Foodbank to provide free breakfast foods to 20 schools across the Limestone Coast.
The program assists school-aged children by ensuring they have a healthy start to their school day while also helping to build community spirit in the school environment.
Participating schools have reported the social interaction in the morning before first class helps to settle children, improving retention, learning and overall wellbeing.
The sponsorship funds contribute to the purchase of nutritious wholegrain breakfast cereals and other essential groceries needed for a hearty breakfast.
The Mount Gambier and District Community branch of the Bendigo Bank has sponsored the program for over seven years.
“We are proud to work in partnership with Foodbank to be able to assist in the delivery of such a valued program,” branch manager Tracy Koop said.
“To ensure students have access to a healthy and nutritious breakfast before starting their day encourages both social and educational wellbeing.
“We applaud Foodbank for the great work they continue to do in our community.”
Foodbank Limestone Coast manager Lynne Neshoda said the branch was fortunate to have the “ongoing major support” of the community bank.
“Without these funds we would certainly struggle to provide our now extensive breakfast program in the region,” Ms Neshoda said.
