Legendary effort

CHEERS: Owner of The Grand Hotel, Steve Thomas, is celebrating after the pub received runner-up in the Liquor Legends Retailer of the Year Awards.

A MILLICENT hotel has been recognised for its excellent efforts as a retailer this week in a national awards competition.

Up against tough competition, staff are celebrating their placing in the top 20 in the country.

Grand Hotel owner Steve Thomas and duty manager Leandra Worrell flew to Brisbane for the Liquor Legends national conference and awards night last week where the Grand Hotel was recognised as a stand-out among the 500-plus Liquor Legends listed pubs across Australia.

“We were up against some pretty big pubs and were hoping to get in the top 20,” Mr Thomas said.

“We are really happy to finish runner-up.”

Winners were chosed based on points received in eight to 10 different categories.

The Grand Hotel missed out on first place by less than 1pc to a “huge” pub in Queensland and was in the top 10 for four of the categories and winner of one.

As part of the prize, Mr Thomas will attend the Liquor Legends international conference at the end of the year in Ireland and Scotland.

He said he was excited for upcoming months with “lots of new stuff” coming out.

As part of the Liquor Legends brand, The Grand Hotel hosts a members draw on Friday nights in the top bar as well as Happy Hour Monday-Thursday for members.
