A WELL respected Mount Gambier dancer will take her expertise and skills to Newcastle this weekend as takes part in a national event.
Joining a judging panel, Lisa Barker will adjudicate many dancers from across the country as they put on their best performances.
One of only six Australian judges selected in the 12-person judging panel, the Australian Champion of Champions event is Australia’s most prestigious Highland dancing competition.
This will be Ms Barker’s first time adjudicating the event, having represented South Australia as an adjudicator at the International Highland Dancing Festival of Australia in 2016.
Ms Barker was the winner of the Champion of Champions Championship of Australia during her time as a competitive dancer.
Later in 2018, Ms Barker will adjudicate in Canada in British-Columbia and at the biggest Highland dancing event in North America – the ScotDance Canada Championship Series in Calgary, Alberta.
The experience and opportunity for professional development at both events will support her ultimate goal as a judge to one day join the international judging panel representing Australia at the world championships held in Dunoon, Scotland.
Ms Barker said these opportunities helped her bring the highest level of expertise and experience to her students, dancers and teaching support team in the Ardlair School of Dancing and to the wider South Australian Highland Dancing community.
