BREAKING NEWS – 11am:
POLICE are at the scene of a serious crash involving a cyclist near Mount Gambier in the state’s South East.
Just before 9.30am, emergency service crews responded to calls of crash between a car and a cyclist on the Riddoch Highway near the Mount Salt road at Mount Schank.
Police are diverting traffic around the scene at Mount Schank.
Please avoid the area if possible.
UPDATE – 2.15pm:
Traffic restrictions remain place south of Mount Gambier as traffic is diverted near the Mount Salt road at Mount Schank.
Police remain on scene and Major Crash investigators are en route.
UPDATE – 4.30pm:
AN 80-year-old Mount Gambier cyclist has died after he was involved in a crash with a car on the Riddoch Highway near Mount Schank yesterday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene at around 9.30am – around halfway between the highway’s intersections with Sisters and Mount Salt roads.
Limestone Coast Police officer in charge Superintendent Grant Moyle told The Border Watch the cyclist died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
Supt Moyle said Police Major Crash investigators from Adelaide were investigating the accident to determine its cause.
The stretch of the highway at the accident scene was closed to traffic throughout the day as investigations continued.
