Open space planning begins

THE Glenelg Shire community is being encouraged to have a say on the strategic direction of the future planning, provision, design and management of open space in the region over the next 20 years.

Commencing work on the development of a new Glenelg Open Space Strategy, the council will consider space including parks, reserves, open gardens, sports grounds and trails.

Community wellbeing manager Jodie Maybery said the project provided guidance for the future through an enhanced understanding of the existing open space network.

Mayor Anita Rank encouraged residents to have their say and take part in the online survey.

The strategy may include changes to existing open spaces to enhance functionality, changes to use and management of spaces and a range of strategic initiatives to invest in open spaces identified to be of the highest value.

The Open Space Strategy will be finalised by August next year, with this round of community consultation closing on December 15.
