Temporary chief executive to oversee Millicent and district health operations

A TEMPORARY chief executive will have oversight of Millicent and District Hospital for the majority of 2018.

A Country Health SA spokesperson said incumbent Jayne Downs was taking long service and other accumulated leave from December 23.

Ms Downs is scheduled to return to duty in September.

“I am looking forward to taking a break,” Ms Downs said.

As well as Millicent, Ms Downs is also chief executive of the government hospitals at Penola, Mount Gambier, Naracoorte, Kingston and Bordertown in her capacity as South East Regional Health Director.

Millicent Hospital was stripped of its own resident chief executive over a decade ago following a wide-ranging policy decision of the Labor State Government.

The position of South East Regional Health Director has been externally advertised with applications closing on Friday.

The most senior Country Health SA bureaucrat at Millicent Hospital is executive officer/director of nursing Michelle De Wit, who is part-way through a two-year contract.
