AN ELDERLY duo has escaped serious injury after the car they were travelling in lost control and crashed into bushes on the Princes Highway near Greenways on Wednesday afternoon.
Robe and Greenways Country Fire Service, police and ambulance services all attended the scene at around 3.45pm after reports of the single vehicle crash.
They arrived to find a 4WD Land Rover stationary in bushes and trees.
Robe CFS group officer Brian Kirkland said an elderly couple had been travelling south from Kingston when their car lost control and crashed into the bushes.
“The car was definitely a write-off,” Mr Kirkland said.
“The elderly pair were a bit shaken up from the crash and the airbags going off and were transported to hospital for observation.”
Mount Gambier Police Sergeant Stephen Lawrie said the two occupants “self-extricated” themselves from the vehicle.
“They were out of the vehicle when emergency services arrived,” Sgt Lawrie said.
“One occupant had a bleeding arm, but otherwise the injuries were relatively minor, however they were both taken to Kingston Hospital for observation.”
