THE Millicent and District Health Advisory Council is without a presiding member as Glenn Brown stepped down from the role on Monday night.
He made the shock announcement at the private HAC meeting which immediately followed the annual general meeting at Millicent and District Hospital.
Mr Brown has served on the HAC for several years and became its presiding member in 2014.
His time in health administration dates back over three decades and he became chief executive of Millicent and District Hospital in 1988.
He was later promoted to be the regional general manager of the South East Regional Health Service.
Mr Brown was appointed to a three-year term on the Country Health SA risk and audit committee earlier this year in succession to fellow Millicent resident John Drew.
He told The South Eastern Times he will continue in that role, but his involvement with the HAC had come to an end.
“There was not a quorum at the HAC meeting on Monday to elect a new presiding member and that will be done at the next meeting with the new members,” Mr Brown said.
“I felt it was time to let go as I have been involved in health administration since 1985.”
According to Mr Brown, he had delayed his decision until he knew of the numbers nominating for the HAC.
With three newcomers, Mr Brown said the numbers were there for the HAC to continue.
Another factor in his decision to step down from the HAC was the increasing time he was spending travelling and with his family.
“I did not think I could give the time required,” he said
“The new HAC will continue.”
Mr Brown has been a Corcoran ward representative on Wattle Range Council for several years.
His term of office expires in a year time and he has left open the possibility of re-nominating as he has a special interest in a number of ongoing council projects.
