Nominations open for outstanding citizens

NOMINATIONS are now open for the 2018 Australia Day Local Citizen of the Year Awards, to be presented at Mount Gambier’s Australia Day breakfast celebrations at The Rail on January 26.

Confidential written nominations are invited from interested people for the Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Event of the Year for events run during 2017.

“The awards recognise individuals and organisations that have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year or given outstanding service over a number of years to a local community over and above normal employment duties,” Mayor Andrew Lee said.

Outstanding contribution and community service includes areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of a community.

The awards will provide a key focus for Mount Gambier’s 2018 Australia Day celebrations.

“We hope the entire community will join us at The Rail at 7.30am for breakfast and entertainment, including performances from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, North Gambier Primary School students, Christy Wallace and Phoenix Music Studio,” Mr Lee said.

“The awards presentation will begin at 9.15am.”

Nominations in writing will be received until 5pm on November 24 and should be addressed to Mayor Andrew Lee, PO Box 56, Mount Gambier, SA, 5290 and marked Australia Day 2018 on the envelope.

Nomination forms and guidelines are available online at www.mountgambier.sa.gov.au or at the Mount Gambier Civic Centre.
