Spring show time for Millicent

FINAL CHECK: Millicent electrician Dennis Muhovics examines the power board at Sideshow Alley at the Millicent Showgrounds yesterday under the watchful eyes of Millicent Show Society senior vice president Susie Hutchesson (left) and committee member and gardener Sue Vanderheul.

FOR the many lovers of the annual Millicent Show, the wait is almost over.

It has been the number one event on the Millicent social calendar for over 140 years and the gates of the Gordon Memorial Oval will open today for three days of action and excitement.

In her second year in the role, Millicent Show Society secretary Lynne Forbes said a program of favourite and new attractions had been arranged.

“We would like the weather to be fine and cool,” Ms Forbes said.

“At this stage, our indoor entries are slightly down.”

She was confident such new attractions as George the Farmer, stunt pilot Chris Sperou, Kids Corner and Scott Stunz Circus Magic would be popular drawcards.

“According to the Showmen’s Guild which runs Sideshow Alley, the Millicent Show has the best fireworks,” she said.

“We get a good deal and they are set to go at 9pm on Friday.

“We have a speed shearing event after our regular shearing is over and so the show should continue into Saturday night.”

“Demand for trade displays has been strong and the [number two] hall is full.

“That is why we need to raise $55,000 to repair the hall which used to have Vera’s Kitchen”.

For the second consecutive year, there will be two days of the motorbike competition.

In addition Horses-in-Action, the Junior Showgoers competition, Demo Derby, animal nursery, a unique vehicle display and yard dogs will add to the appeal of the Millicent Show as well as the sheep, cattle and poultry sections.

Needless to say, it would not be a Millicent Show without the hot dogs, show bags and Sideshow Alley.
