Aged care upgrade

SHEOAK Lodge residents will feast in style after a $5500 donation by the Lions Club of Millicent for new dining tables.

At a recent meeting, Millicent Lions president Bruce Teagle presented Millicent and District Health Advisory Council chairman and Lion Glenn Brown with the cheque for the new furniture at the Millicent aged care facility.

Mr Brown said the donation would allow the health service to purchase eight tables.

“The new tables are a very good idea and much needed in the facility,” he said.

“It started with the Lions looking at trying to repair tables and I had a discussion with them about the need to ensure we met quality standards and they were maintained in a hygienic fashion.

“It was then suggested it was more appropriate to try and replace them.

“People need to be comfortable and the appearance of our health services needs to be of a high quality and from a HAC perspective we want to ensure we’re maintaining a high standard.”

Millicent hospital director of nursing and executive officer Michelle de Wit said the staff were “hugely grateful” for the donation.

“The generous donation from the Millicent Lions Club means we should be able to buy at least two large dining tables and four or five smaller tables to be used by residents at meal times,” she said.

“The new tables will replace the older tables at the lodge, which have served residents well over many years.

“We are grateful to the local community for its ongoing support of our local health services and hope the new tables will be in the lodge by Christmas.”
