TERRIFIC TRIO: Among the youngsters at Millicent’s McArthur Park Kindergarten are Pippa Bromley, Stella Peters and Polly Sapiatzer. Staff and the governing council are looking for a grant of $15,200 from the Fund My Neighbourhood scheme to improve the sand play area.

THE staff and governing council of McArthur Park Kindergarten are seeking a grant of $15,200 from the Fund My Neigbourhood scheme to improve the sand play area.

The kindergarten plans to extend its undercover area for all types of weather conditions.

It is looking to construct a new way-finding experience through a sensory path and jetty leading to a boat in the sandpit.

A rejuvenation of the water play area is needed with a rockery upgrade and installation of a water pump among the requirements.

Acting kindergarten director Sally Gower said fundraising was being undertaken and grants sought through other funding channels.

She said votes from the local community through Fund My Neighbourhood would be welcomed and could help the kindergarten achieve its goal.

“We want to create a better place and a safer place for the children, but funding is limited,” Ms Gower said.

“The sand play area needs a revamp as it is tired.

“The shade cloth is ripped, the waterway does not work and the rockery needs to be redone.

“There is no shade cover over the boat and the area cannot be used when it is too hot.

“Our vision is for the sand pit area to be a beautiful place to play and explore as at present it is not very inviting.”
