Generous pyjama donation

GIFTS OF GRATITUDE: Di Chambers, Limestone Coast Domestic Violence Service manager Susie Smith and Kathleen Donhardt.

TWO generous Mount Gambier women have donated bags full of new children’s pyjamas to the Limestone Coast Domestic Violence Service (LCDVS) with funds raised from their recent inspirational talk.

Speaking out with their personal stories from tragedy to triumph at the Stepping Out of The Shadows Into the Light event, Di Chambers and Kathleen Donhardt chose to use money donated on the night to help women and  children in need.

Raising a total of $430, Di and Kathleen reached out to the LCDVS to see what items were most needed by families who have escaped domestic violence situations.

“The Limestone Coast Domestic Violence Service was the closest service or organisation we thought of that we could relate to,” Kathleen said.

“Instead of donating to a large charity, we wanted to help people in our own backyard.”

Thankful for the donation, manager Susie Smith said the pyjamas will be of great benefit to women and children in need.

“Women often come here without anything at all because they have to rush to leave the situation, so to be given clean, warm, new pyjamas for their children is a real blessing,” she said.

“It is comforting for them and makes them feel more secure and safe.

“Even just the knowledge that women such as Di and Kathleen think of the service as a place to support gives some satisfaction.”

An $80 gift card was also presented.
