SWIMMING season is here with the Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre opening on Monday when it reached around 27 degrees throughout the day.

Temperatures over 30C continued on Tuesday and Wednesday with residents cooling down at the popular facility.

It was one of the warmest weeks on record the pool has opened on and many keen swimmers were glad to find relief in the cool pools.

“We have over 1000 kids booked for swimming lessons and had about 200 yesterday,” Abby Von Duve said on Tuesday.

The aquatic centre has broken records of swimming lessons this term, with classes starting Monday alongside Mount Gambier’s swimming club – Blue Lake Y – also starting training.

Activity will step-up ahead of the club’s 2017 carnival on November 25 and 26.

Alongside the pool, children were enjoying the shaded playground this week and having fun outdoors.

Mount Gambier Aquatic Centre is open 6am to 7pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 6pm Saturdays and 11am to 6pm Sundays, giving locals plenty of time to enjoy the warmer weather.
