THE snake sighted around the Main Corner in Mount Gambier earlier this week is believed to have been found after it was again spotted in the precinct on Tuesday night.
A reptile – believed to be the metre-long brown snake witnessed on Sunday – was again spotted opposite the Commonwealth Bank on the roadway.
While a resident tried to usher it off the busy road, a motorist ran over it.
Council staff removed the snake yesterday morning after it was discovered dead in a gutter.
The snake was originally sighted on Sunday when it dropped from a car near the traffic lights at the Main Corner.
A tourist reportedly told a council employee in the Main Corner building that someone opened their car door and a snake fell out.
It is not known if that occurred or the snake fell from beneath the car.
Residents have been urged to be vigilant and watch out for snakes around the Crater Lakes and other grass areas across the city given the burst of warm weather.
