Dog obedience rally praised

CLEVER COMPANION: Blue Lake Obedience Dog Club trial manager Karen Brooksby’s dog Bella navigates an agility trial at the club’s annual Easter obedience rally.

THE Blue Lake Obedience Dog Club hosted its annual Obedience, Rally and Agility Dog Trial at the Easter long weekend in ideal conditions.

Judges and competitors travelled from across South Australia and Victoria for the two-day event.

Club trial manager Karen Brooksby said the event was a stunning success.

“The weather was incredible and we had lots of local support and families come to see the handlers and their dogs in action,” Ms Brooksby said.

“We had 862 entries over the two days in the three disciplines and 14 local club members competed with many gaining passes and titles.”

Blue Lake Obedience Dog Club member Jan Hellyer and her pup Basil were crowned Most Outstanding in two disciplines, obedience and rally, while member Janine Feil and her dog Kiri were the highest scoring in agility and jumping.

“Tremendous support through sponsorship assists our club to hold the Easter event and our October trial later this year,” Ms Brooksby said.

“As first time trial manager I was very impressed with the Blue Lake Obedience Dog Club in organising the event and hosting three disciplines.

“Mount Gambier is the only club in South Australia that holds such an event, usually these disciplines are broken up with a one day trial.

“Big congratulations to the incredible team of helpers that made the weekend a huge success.”
