MORE than 100 members of the Mount Gambier Liberal Party will gather at the Allan Scott Glenburnie Racecourse next week for a preselection ballot.
Mount Gambier identities Vicki Quinn and Craig Marsh will join Mingbool grazier Tony Beck for the three-way tussle for Liberal preselection to stand for the party for the seat of Mount Gambier.
According to information sent to party members, a person must be a financial member of the party for 12 months to be eligible to vote.
The three candidates will address the party college on Thursday, October 12, at 6.30pm before a candidate will be chosen by preferential ballot in accordance with the party’s constitution.
College members must attend the meeting to vote and no proxy or early voting will be permitted.
The preselection battle was triggered by the resignation of embattled Member for Mount Gambier Troy Bell from the Liberal Party ranks.
Mr Bell – who is representing the electorate as an independent – is fighting a string of theft and fraud charges.
He has yet to declare whether he will run in the March 2018 state election.
Neither the Labor Party nor The Nick Xenophon Team have announced their candidates for the election.
