Robert hits the road for charity challenge

MAKING TRACKS: Kalangadoo man Robert Stewart takes a well-deserved rest after cycling 35km for charity last week.

KALANGADOO man Robert Stewart put his pedal to the metal as he cycled more than 35km for charity last week.

The avid cyclist rode from Kalangadoo to Millicent on Friday morning as part of the upcoming Swagtember campaign to raise awareness for homelessness.

Mr Stewart hit the road at 8am, arriving at his destination just under four hours later.

“I thought I did alright to make it in that time,” he said.

Robert also faced the tough hill areas around Mount Burr and Mount Muirhead.

“I thought the weather might turn on me but apart from a little spit I got in Kalangadoo, I had nothing.

“I thought the magpies would cause me trouble but they were pretty easy to account for this time.

The event is the first of two fundraising rides Mr Stewart is undertaking as part of the Swagtember initiative in an attempt to raise funds to provide the homeless with street swags.

Designed for those living on the streets, the temporary bedding provides warmth, comfort and safety.

Mr Stewart’s next ride will see him cycle from Kalangadoo to Penola.

“I thought I’d get the longest ride out of the way first,” he said.

“The longest is always the most gruelling.

“It’s better to set myself the easier and shorter route the second time around.”
