State history nominations open

REGISTRATIONS for South Australia’s 2019 History Festival are now open.

The 16th history festival will include a vast and expansive variety of activities, tours and engaging opportunities for South Australians to immerse themselves in the state’s history.

From songs to slide-shows, bus tours to bushwalks and in venues ranging from galleries to graveyards, the events promise to fascinate.

On April 27 and 28, the SA History Festival will celebrate South Australia’s stunning architectural history with an open doors weekend.

Heritage building owners have the opportunity to open their doors and share their stories with tours, talks, children’s activities, performances or displays.

History Trust of South Australia chief executive Greg Mackie said more South Australians had embraced the festival in recent years.

“The History Festival program provides an opportunity for many hundreds of individuals, organisations and thousands of volunteers to share their passion for history, for collecting and for our unique heritage,” Mr Mackie said.

The festival team has also organised a series of community workshops around the state for event organisers to learn more about being part of the action in 2019.

Online registrations to participate in the 2019 festival are open to individuals and organisations wishing to promote South Australia’s stories, places and collections.

All events are listed on the festival website and will be printed in a statewide program.

Registrations close February 7.

The 2018 program included over 660 events across the state presented by 370 event organisers and had an overall attendance of 139,000 people.
