LOW income households may have their power bills slashed as the State Government seeks to negotiate electricity contracts with suppliers on their behalf.
The State Government will invite energy companies to submit expressions of interest to become suppliers for households that currently receive energy concessions.
Communites and Social Inclusion Minister Zoe Bettison said the savings from buying in bulk would be passed on to consumers.
“We know the majority of people receiving the State Government’s energy concessions are on standing contracts and we believe we can negotiate a much better deal for them,” she said.
