Education funding boost

STUDENTS with special needs in the state’s public schools will benefit from a $57m funding boost over the next five years.

The funding will be used to provide services to 27,000 students who will benefit from specialised support from teachers or support staff who will work with them on a one on one or group basis.

The funding will also be used for teacher training and development to ensure each student’s individual needs are being met.

The $57m in funding follows a 2017 student survey that broadened the definition of disability.

As a result of the survey, funding will now be directed to students
